Amplicon Sequencing (bTEFAP®)

MR DNA supports targeted amplicon sequencing across standard and custom primer assays—16S, 18S, ITS, COI, and functional genes. Built for scale, consistency, and publication-ready outputs.

What we sequence

From standard diversity markers to specialized functional assays and custom primer sets. If you have a custom assay, we can set it up and run it.

16S rRNA

Community profiling for bacteria and archaea across host-associated and environmental samples.

ITS

Fungal diversity and community structure for soils, plants, built environments, and host samples.

18S & COI

Eukaryotic surveys, biodiversity, and broader profiling for ecological applications.

Functional genes

Targeted assays for biogeochemical cycles and applied microbiology.

Examples: nirS, nifH, dsr, pufM, nosZ, HMC (and many more).

Custom primers

Bring your primers or ask us to help source and validate them.

Optional analysis

From raw FASTQs to reporting—choose the level of bioinformatics support you need.

Pricing

The legacy site included specific tiers. We can still support these program structures—pricing is refreshed over time, so use the quote form for current totals and turnaround.

Illumina amplicons (example program)

  • illumina paired-end (example diversity assay depth: >20,000 sequences guaranteed)
  • $85/assay for 1–20 assays (projects < 10 assays per library a one time: +$150 library fee)
  • $80 for 20–49 assays
  • $75 for 50–99 assays
  • $70 for 100–149 assays
  • $65 for >150 assays
  • Large projects: >300 samples per assay = $55/assay (additional discounts may apply)

PacBio Sequel long-read amplicons (example tiers) these are prices for small projects (inceasing discounts are available with higher numbers of samples)

  • Projects <10 samples: $150 indexing fee + $20/sample PCR replication fee
  • Low average coverage (<500 sequences/sample): $50/sample
  • ~5,000 sequences/sample: $85/sample
  • ~10,000 sequences/sample: $115/sample
  • ~20,000 sequences/sample: $180/sample
  • ~40,000 sequences/sample: $250/sample
  • Custom scales available (multiples of 40K)
  • Custom 700–3000 bp (or larger) barcoding: typically ~$15/barcode

Extraction (starting ranges)

  • DNA extraction: starting at $40/sample (depends on sample type/service)
  • RNA extraction: starting at $50–$70/sample (depends on sample type/service)

Custom assay setup

Custom assay pricing is typically an additional $10–$20 per barcode (one-time setup). If you need a custom assay, we can help order and test primers.

What you receive

  • Demultiplexed FASTQ files (per sample)
  • Run-level and sample-level QC summaries
  • Optional taxonomic tables, alpha, beta, unifrac, statistics and summaries (project-dependent)
  • Optional publication-ready reporting (project-dependent)

Ready to quote

To quote accurately, include:

  • Target (16S/ITS/18S/COI/functional/custom)
  • Sample count (and anticipated batches if staged)
  • Desired depth / read length preference (if known)
  • Whether extraction and/or bioinformatics is needed
  • Timeline requirements
